22 killed, 65 injured in Iraq attacks

A wave of violent attacks left at least 22 people killed and 65 wounded in the Iraqi capital city Saturday, police said.

The deadliest blast occurred in the Mansour district of Baghdad, leaving six civilians killed and 12 injured, Xinhua quoted a police source as saying.

Four civilians were killed and 13 wounded when a car bomb went off in the Baghdad's Topchi area, while three were killed and 12 were wounded during a car bombing in the Utaifiyya area, also in Baghdad, the source said.

Three people were killed while nine injured when two mortars struck the Adeal neighbourhood of western Baghdad.

Also in western Baghdad, two civilians were killed and 10 suffered injuries when a car bomb exploded in the Jamah district, while one civilian was killed and five wounded by a roadside bomb in the Amiriya district.

Meanwhile, another car bomb attacked the Nahda area of eastern Baghdad, left three people killed and four wounded.

Iraq is witnessing its worst violence in recent years. According to the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, a total of 8,868 Iraqis, including 7,818 civilians and civilian police personnel, were killed in 2013, marking highest annual death toll in years.
