At least 22 members of an organised crime ring were killed in a clash with the Mexican army, media reported Tuesday.
The incident occurred Monday in Ancon de los Curieles, a small community in the town of Tlatlaya, Xinhua reported.
The victims belonged to the so-called "Guerreros Unidos" (United Warriors) group.
One soldier was wounded during the clash.
The bodies of the victims were taken to an open-air amphitheater in Tlatlaya, waiting to be identified or claimed by relatives, officials said.
