Three criminals have been arrested on the charge of supplying illegal arms to various gangs operating in the National Capital Region, including Delhi, police said on Monday. Five pistols have been seized from them.
Gajender Singh, 25, Umar Khan, 34, and Mohammad Sajid, 34, are residents of Uttam Nagar, Vikaspuri and Ranhola in Delhi.
Gajender was arrested on January 16 from Uttam Nagar when he went there to deliver three pistols to a criminal.
"Following his arrest, his accomplices Umar and Sajid were arrested on January 17 from Ranhola in west Delhi with two loaded pistols they were to deliver to a criminal in Najafgarh," Deputy Commissioner of Police Shibesh Singh said.
Gajender procured illegal arms and ammunition on demand from his contact Harish Chander in Mathura in Uttar Pradesh.
The gang was operating for the last one year and had supplied several illegal firearms to gangster and criminals in the NCR, the officer added.
Gajender, a native of Mathura, was staying with his parents in Uttam Nagar. Since he failed to get a job, he started supplying illegal firearms to criminals to meet his expenses.
"He later joined hands with Khan and Sajid who sold countrymade pistols and automatic firearms to criminals in Delhi. Khan and Sajid had also planned a robbery at a liquor shop in west Delhi ahead of the Republic Day and extended weekend," the DCP said.
