A private firm's owner arrested by the CBI for allegedly cheating a government bank of Rs 10 crore on the basis of a fake identity was on Friday remanded in four-day police custody by a special court here.

The Central Bureau of Investigation arrested Jain Tex and Fab proprietor Parvesh Jain on Thursday for allegedly conspiring with other accused by way of impersonation, cheating and forgery and thereby causing a loss of Rs 10 crore to IDBI Bank, a public sector undertakings.

A case was registered against Jain, his wife Ruchi Jain and other unknown accused on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, impersonation and criminal misconduct in November 2015.

The central agency told CBI Special Judge Praveen Singh that its investigation found that Jain and his wife presented a person Ujagar Singh Gill to stand collateral surety for enhancement of cash credit limit by the IDBI Bank in September 2009.

The agency said the said person Gill is not traceable and there is reason to believe that the accused presented an impersonator before the bank with fake ID proofs and addresses.

The agency sought seven-day custody of Jain to reach Gill.

The CBI said Jain's custodial interrogation was necessary to unearth the source of bogus documents, other case facts and to trace other accused involved in the case.
