A total of 87 candidates have filed nomination papers for the six Lok Sabha seats in Assam that will go to the polls April 24 in the sixth phase of national elections, officials said Sunday.
Assam's chief electoral officer said scrutiny of nominations will be held Monday, while the last date for withdrawal is April 9.
For the prestigious Gauhati Lok Sabha constituency, 22 candidates have filed nominations, which includes 13 independents.
As many as 18 candidates have filed papers for Dhubri, nine for Kokrajhar, 15 for Barpeta, 13 for Mangaldai and 10 for Nowgong.
A total of 51 candidates have filed papers for the first phase of polls to be held Monday in five constituencies - Tezpur, Jorhat, Kaliabor, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur.
Another 37 people are in the fray for the second phase to take place April 12 in three constituencies - Silchar, Karimganj and Diphu (autonomous district).
