AAP leaders told Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday that the violence in Punjab after the desecration of the Sikh holy book was "very disturbing" and sought central government's intervention.
During the 15-minute meeting, leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) submitted a memorandum to the minister saying that the situation in Punjab was out of control and that lawlessness had become the order of the day.
They sought the minister's intervention in keeping a check on the situation.
Sanjay Singh accused the Punjab government of delaying a probe into the desecration of the Sikh holy book, and said no steps were taken for four months to stop the violence.
Tension mounted in Kotkapura area of Faridpur district on October 12 after over 100 pages of the Sikh holy book were found scattered in a street near a gurdwara in Bargari village, 15 km from Kotkapura.
The holy book was stolen from a gurdwara in June.
"The state government has totally failed to work in the interest of the people of Punjab," he said.
He was accompanied by AAP's MP from Sangrur in Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, party leaders Ashutosh and Durgesh Pathak.
The leaders also brought up the growing menace of drugs in Punjab.
"The drug lords are being shielded by the state government openly which is a serious cause of concern. This must be checked and immediate action should be taken to save the generations of Punjab," Mann said.
