Afghan police officer killed in twin blasts

A police officer was killed and two others were injured Thursday in twin explosions in Afghanistan's Kandahar city, a security official said.

The attack took place in Nari Pul locality of the police district at around 7.15 a.m., Xinhua quoted the official as saying.

"Our initial reports said an improvised bomb was detonated near a police checkpoint, leaving a police officer dead. The second blast occurred after police arrived in the area and people gathered at the site, injuring two policemen," the official said.
