The 66th Republic Day witnessed light showers Monday, but the weather department forecast a clear sky for Tuesday.
The maximum temperature was recorded five notches below the season's average at 16.4 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 11.6 degrees Celsius -- three notches above the season's average.
The intermittent spells of showers though failed to dampen the spirits of the enthusiastic audience who reached Rajpath quite early to witness the majestic display of India's military prowess and cultural diversity in the annual parade.
The general public was not allowed to carry umbrellas as part of security measures in light of the presence of VVIPs, including Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief guest US President Barack Obama, at the parade.
Enthusiastic people were seen covering themselves with their jackets and the programme schedule cards.
On Monday, the rainfall recorded between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. was 0.8 mm.
Due to fog, the visibility at 8.30 a.m. slumped to 500 metres and led to delay in 33 train services while forcing rescheduling of three trains. Two trains were cancelled.
An official of the India Meteorological Department said that after moderate fog in the morning, Tuesday will have clear skies.
Tuesday's maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 17 and 10 degrees Celsius, respectively.
