Concerned over the safety of its medical staff, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has urged the government to hurry up the process of deputing CISF personnel in key areas of the premier hospital.
"We have urged the government to hasten the process of CISF personnel deputation in the hospital's key areas, as violence by family members of the patients has increased very much," AIIMS spokesperson Amit Gupta told IANS.
The request was made after over 200 people on Saturday evening vandalised some departments of the AIIMS trauma centre and tried to attack the medical practitioners.
The incident occurred after a 28-year-old Muslim youth, brought to the trauma centre's emergency section, was declared brought dead.
Gupta said: "There have been several attacks even in the past following which we had earlier requested the government to depute CISF personnel in the key areas of the hospital. However, after the Saturday's event we are more concerned about it."
"After Saturday's request, the government has said that in spite of the complicated process they will depute CISF personnel in five-six months," he said.
Currently, two private security agencies SIS and SWIFT have been given contract to guard the hospital.
