Ajay Chautala's disproportionate assets case sent to special court

A Delhi court on Thursday allowed Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Ajay Chautala's plea seeking transfer of a disproportionate assets case against him to another court.

District Judge Ravinder Kaur allowed Ajay's plea and transferred the case to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Special Judge Pitamber Dutt, who will hear the matter from March 23.

Ajay had sought transfer of the case alleging that the presiding officer's conduct was "utmost unfair" and the evidence was being recorded in the "most illegal manner."

The CBI, however, requested court to dismiss the plea describing the application as frivolous and based on flimsy grounds.

Currently, the court was recording statement of the witnesses in the case.

Ajay is accused of possessing assets exceeding his legal income by 339.27 per cent. However, he denies the charges.

Ajay is serving a 10-year jail term over a teachers' recruitment scam.

On January 22, 2013, a trial court sentenced 55 people for committing irregularities in the recruitment of 3,032 junior basic trained teachers. Former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay were among those who were convicted and sentenced to jail terms.
