Sanaa, April 16 (IANS/AKI) Al Qaeda militants have captured the main airport in the south of Yemen after fierce clashes with army personnel, and later seized a sea port and oil terminal, military sources said.
The Al Qaeda militants seized Riyan airport in the city of Mukalla, in Hadramout, Yemen's largest province, the sources said.
After seizing the airport, the militants overran the sea port and oil terminal.
Al Qaeda militants gained control of Mukalla earlier this month and freed prisoners being held in its jail, including one of the terror group's commanders.
Al Qaeda's Yemen branch has long been seen as the network's deadliest.
