The government will commit all resources at its disposal to eradicate Left wing extremism (LWE) from the country, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said Wednesday.
Addressing the Consultative Committee of Members of Parliament attached to the home ministry here, Rajnath Singh said the decline of the LWE has encouraged the security establishment.
The home minister, however, said that this should not lull the country into a sense of complacency, an official release said.
Rajnath Singh mentioned that LWE still remains the biggest threat to India's internal security and nation building process. Thus, it has remained on top of the agenda for intervention by the government.
He said that the centre has adopted a four-pronged strategy with the LWE-affected states to tackle the Maoist threat comprising security related interventions, development, securing rights and entitlement to the largely tribal population, and public perception management.
In a presentation on LWE to the members of the committee, details were provided about monitoring mechanism, security related measures such as modernization of state police forces, security related expenditure, construction of 400 fortified police stations, setting up of 21 counter-insurgency and anti-terrorist (CIAT) schools, the release said.
The members discussed various aspects of LWE ranging from economic development, security, causes and effects of the problem, ideology, coordination between central and state security forces and lack of communication in the affected states.
