Jose Luis Gioja, governor of Argentina's northwest province of San Juan, was injured Friday after the helicopter he was travelling in plummeted to the ground.
The crash occurred around 4.00 p.m. shortly after it took off. The governor and a delegation were flying over flooded areas of the department of Sarmiento to survey the extent of the damage.
Gioja was flying from the region of Valle Fertil towards San Juan, the provincial capital, when the aircraft crashed, reported Xinhua citing Argentinan media.
The governor, a political ally of President Cristina Fernandez, was rushed to a medical center for treatment and is said to be out of danger.
