The National Green Tribunal on Wednesday ordered Numaligarh refinery in Assam to demolish a 2.2 km section of a wall to clear the way for an elephant corridor.
An NGT bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar, while imposing a fine of Rs 25 lakh for destroying the forest, also ordered that no township can be established within a 15 km radius of the adjoining Kaziranga National Park.
The bench had given one month time to remove the wall and barbed wire that came across the natural migration routes for the elephants.
