Capital football club Atletico Madrid announced on Monday that Uruguayan defender Jose Maria Gimenez has sustained a hamstring injury of the right thigh.
Gimenez suffered his injury during Saturday's La Liga game, in which Atletico was defeated by Sporting Gijon 1-2, in round 30 of the competition, reports Efe.
Medical tests revealed that Gimenez will take up to three weeks to recover from his injury, which reduces the possibility of catching up with the clash against Real Betis on April 2.
There are also doubts that the Uruguayan will be able to play in the Champions League quarter-finals against Barcelona at the Camp Nou stadium on April 5.
Gimenez has now joined the Rojiblancos list of injured players, which also includes his countryman Diego Godin and the Montenegrin Stefan Savic.
