Australian Mining magnate Gina Rinehart has taken urgent legal action in a bid to stop the second part of a television programme about her life from going on air.

Rinehart, who is Australia's wealthiest person and the sixth richest woman in the world, moved court to stop part two of the Nine Network's House Of Hancock - to be aired Sunday night, the Sydney Morning Herald reported.

The second part is reported to detail a bitter family feud, which developed in Rinehart's family after her father died.

Rinehart's lawyer asked the New South Wales Supreme Court to grant an application for urgent preliminary discovery against the Nine Entertainment Co. Friday.

Her lawyer wanted to view the programme to see if there were grounds to seek an urgent injunction to prevent the series from going on air as scheduled.

Her lawyer said the application was based primarily on two causes of action: malicious falsehood and defamation.

The Forbes magazine estimated Rinehart's wealth at $17.6 billion last year.
