Bangladesh's main opposition alliance called another round of nationwide strike form Sunday morning to press home its demands including a fresh election under a non-party caretaker government system.
The strike announcement came Friday just a day after it observed a five-day countrywide strike from last Sunday amid violent clashes, vandalism, arson and crude bomb attacks, Xinhua reported.
Two-time ex-prime minister Khaleda Zia's Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)'s spokesperson Salahuddin Ahmed made the announcement through a press release Friday.
Apart from this, he said the alliance would stage demonstrations across the country Monday.
The BNP and its allies have declared the 72-hour road, rail and waterway strike from Sunday morning amid its ongoing blockade campaign that entered 46th day Friday.
Salauddin Ahmed, a BNP joint secretary general, said the strike will start at 6.00 a.m. Sunday and would continue till 6. 00 a.m local time Wednesday.
