Megastar Amitabh Bachchan turned 71 Friday birthday and on the occasion of his birthday he announced that he has taken up an initiative to provide electricity to 3,000 houses in rural India using solar power.
Harivansh Rai Bachchan Memorial Trust and Urja Foundation have come together in the endeavour to provide solar-powered lights to small villages hitherto deprived of electricity.
"There is a trust in my father's name - Harivansh Rai Bachchan Trust - and whatever money we collect, we give it to some charitable cause. Urja Foundation will provide electricity to 3,000 houses in villages," Big B told reporters.
"This is just a beginning. We will start this by November. The electricity will be provided through solar energy free of cost to small villages," he said.
