'Birdman' wins top honour at DGA Awards

Alejandro G. Iñárritu bagged the Directors Guild of America (DGA) Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film for "Birdman".

The 67th annual DGA Awards ceremony, hosted by Jane Lynch, took place here Saturday, reports variety.com.

Inarritu defeated Richard Linklater ("Boyhood"), Clint Eastwood ("American Sniper"), Morten Tydlum ("The Imitation Game") and Wes Anderson ("The Grand Budapest Hotel").

All three major TV awards were won by female directors. "Homeland" director Lesli Linka Glatter won for television drama series; Jill Soloway bagged the comedy series award for "Transparent" and Lisa Cholodenko took home the TV movie-miniseries award for "Olive Kitteredge".

For the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Variety/Talk/News/Sports - Regularly Scheduled Programming, Dave Diomedi won the award for "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" - Episode #1.

Glenn Weiss took home the trophy for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Variety/Talk/News/Sports - Specials for directing the 68th Annual Tony Awards.

Anthony Sacco won the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Reality Programs for "The Test" episode of "The Chair".

The Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Children's Programs was taken by Jonathan Judge for directing the "Pilot" episode of "100 Things To Do Before High School".

Laura Poitras won the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary for directing "Citizenfour".

James Burrows and Robert Butler were honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for Distinguished Achievement in Television Direction.
