The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday appointed its Member of Parliament Laxman Gilua as the new Jharkhand unit chief after accepting the resignation of Tala Marandi from the post.
"BJP President Amit Shah accepted the resignation of Tala Marandi and appointed MP Laxman Gilua as the state BJP President," a party statement said.
Marandi, a tribal leader, was earlier in the news after his son Munna Marandi allegedly married a minor girl in June.
Munna was also accused by a tribal girl of sexual exploitation, following which the girl with whom his marriage was fixed refused to tie the knot with Munna.
Tala, who hailed from Santhal Pargana, was appointed the BJP state unit president in June to counter the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in the region.
