The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday demanded a probe into the murder of its Tamil Nadu general secretary V. Ramesh.
"I am shocked to hear about the brutal killing of V. Ramesh, our general secretary of the Tamil Nadu unit. This is the third assassination of a Tamil Nadu BJP leader," BJP leader Sushma Swaraj said on Twitter.
"We demand a probe into these killings. The government must apprehend the killers and prosecute them," she said.
Ramesh was killed near his office in Salem Friday night.
Calling the incident shocking, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said: "Spoke to TN BJP president Friday night and expressed sadness on the killing."
"The culprits must be punished at the earliest," he said on Twitter.
