Hours after Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi accusing him of practising TRP politics, the BJP hit back, terming Gandhi himself a "champion of TRP politics and victim of incompetence".
"As far as TRP politics is concerned, Rahul Gandhi is champion of photo-ops. He is competing with (Delhi Chief Minister) Arvind Kejriwal in the TRP war. After PM Modi took over, there has been a surge in TRPs of India in global scenario. Earlier, we were perceived as a weak nation but now we have emerged as a strong nation," BJP general secretary Shrikant Sharma said in a statement.
Sharma also said Gandhi's incompetence was responsible for the situation of policy paralysis and scams during the UPA regime.
He claimed that Gandhi's comments against Modi were out of frustration as he could not digest the public support and success at the global politics and economic policies that Modi has received.
"When PM is striving hard to empower poor, farmers and villages, to bring development, fighting hard to weed out corruption from the country, Gandhi and company has been busy in stalling proceedings of parliament and misleading people," he said.
