The BJP on Monday sought to embarrass the Congress on a day it held a day-long fast against attacks on Dalits and minorities by posting a picture on Twitter showing some Delhi Congress leaders eating at a restaurant before the protest.
In the image circulated by BJP leader Harish Khurana, Congress leaders including Ajay Maken, Arvinder Singh Lovely and Haroon Yusuf were seen eating 'chole bhature'.
Khurana, son of former Delhi Chief Minister Madan Lal Khurana, tweeted: "Congress leaders have called people to observe fast... But they themselves are enjoying chhola bhature sitting in a restaurant. They befool really well."
The fast, led by Congress President Rahul Gandhi, was held at Rajghat to highlight attacks on Dalits and minorities.
Lovely, who was seen in the picture, said it was clicked before 8 a.m.
"It is a symbolic fast. This photo was taken before 8 a.m. The fast timings were from 10.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. It was not an indefinite hunger strike.
"This is the problem with these (BJP) people. Instead of focusing on the welfare of people, they are concentrating on what we eat," he said.
