The BJP on Friday mocked Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi for visiting temples in poll-bound Gujarat, saying votes cannot be fetched by merely visiting temples and praying to God but through work.

"Prabhu ke darshan se vote nahi milta, vote milta hai kaam se (votes are not got by visiting temples but by work)," Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told a press conference here.

He was referring to Rahul Gandhi's two visits to Gujarat during which he visited several temples, including Kabir Mandir in Saliya and was seen sporting a "tilak" on his forehead.

Prasad accused the Congress of halting development in Gujarat for years and said Rahul Gandhi will have to answer why his government deliberately delayed many projects when it was in power at the Centre.

"The UPA government did everything to ensure that Sardar Sarovar Dam did not get completion or objections were raised unnecessarily," he said.

"I am raising this issue because Rahul Gandhi is talking about development in Gujarat. But he will have to give account of his work," he said.

The Union Law Minister also accused the Congress leadership of doing nothing to stop corruption when they were in power.

"We have completed three years in power and there is not even a single charge of corruption against us. Taking measures against corruption has never been a part of the DNA of Congress. Have Rahul Gandhi or Sonia Gandhi ever tried to control corruption. The whole DNA of Congress has been reeking of corruption," he said.
