The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday attacked the ruling Samajwadi Party government over the worsening law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh.

Party spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said the multi-crore heist in Ghaziabad just next to the official residences of the special superintendent of police and the district magistrate, showed how much the law and order machinery had collapsed in the state.

He said non-seriousness of the Akhilesh Yadav government towards law and order was evident by the fact that Lucknow, the state capital, does not have a police chief for the last 32 days.

The BJP also blamed the state government for turning a blind eye to the rising crime graph in western Uttar Pradesh.

Pointing out recent crimes like a heist at the Punjab National bank in Deoband and a robbery at a doctor's clinic in Meerut, the BJP leader said the worrisome fact was it was neither the first crime nor the last to have taken place in high security areas of the state.

"There is neither a policy nor will and not even a plan of action to take on criminals," he said, adding that the BJP would raise the matter at all possible foras.
