St. George's (Grenada), Feb 9 (IANS/CMC) Former West Indies cricket captain Courtney Walsh says he is happy to support the initiative of former wicketkeeper Junior Murray to start a cricket academy.

Walsh, who is here to support the academy and participate in the inaugural Junior Murray celebrity cricket match, said he will always make himself available to support the sport in the region.

Walsh will join Murray, former West Indies leg spinner Rawl Lewis and Thomas Kentish, the former Dominica and Windward Islands off spinner in a Junior Murray team to play against a Prime Minister's XI in a Twenty20 match Sunday.

The game, which will be played at Progress Park in the eastern parish of St. Andrew, forms part of the activities marking Grenada's 40th Anniversary of Independence.

"It's a pleasure to be part of the new Junior Murray initiative and Sunday's match. Grenada is one of my favourite places to visit and whenever there is an opportunity I don't pass on it," said Walsh.

The ground is a first class venue which used as a practice ground during the 2007 ICC World Cup.

"All systems are in place for this inaugural event which will feature a mixture of youth and experience," said Dexter Mitchell of Made in Grenada, which is the strategic partner for the Junior Murray brand.

"We expect a large turnout of spectators on Sunday since it will bring the curtains down on celebrations marking Grenada's independence and since their arrival in Grenada, Walsh and the other cricketers have created a buzz."
