A 17-year-old boy in this district of Uttar Pradesh committed suicide after failing to perform to the desired level in the CBSE Class 12 examination, police said on Sunday.

Gopal Agarwal was found hanging from the ceiling in his home in Achnera town here early on Sunday, police said.

"Gopal was deeply depressed since yesterday (Saturday). He had secured 63 percent marks. He was expecting to perform better this year, his second attempt," a member of the family said.

The boy was aspiring to get through to an engineering college.

The examination results were released on Saturday.
