The Cricket Association of Bengal on Thursday cancelled their Annual General Meeting (AGM) which was due to be held on July 31 due to circumstances which have arose after the Supreme Court's order on the Lodha Committee report.
"Due to the supervening circumstances arising out of the order passed by the Supreme Court on July 18, relating to the implementation of the recommendation of the Lodha Committee, we will have to cancel the AGM which was supposed to be held on July 31. We need to implement the necessary amendments," CAB's legal advisor Ushanath Banerjee told reporters here after a meeting.
The Lodha Committee in a letter to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday had asked the governing body to freeze all elections post Monday's verdict by the Supreme Court.
"After we make the necessary amendments to CAB rule book a new date for the AGM will be given. We have also sent the notices to affiliated members regarding the issue," Banerjee said.
Former India captain and CAB president Sourav Ganguly said they had to take the call now as only a handful of days were left before the last date of filing nominations for the AGM. He also added they have not decided on the next step yet.
"It was necessary to take the decision on Friday, as we only had two days left for the nominations to be filed. We cannot say what will be our next step at this point," he said.
The CAB will also hold an emergent working committee meeting on Monday to officially cancel the AGM.
