A bill to give extension to the unathorised colonies in Delhi till 2020 was cleared by the Union Cabinet on Friday, Law and Justice Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Friday.
The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, cleared a bill to further extend the deadline for unauthorised colonies in Delhi, maintain status quo with respect to encroachment or unauthorised development or construction from various dates.
"National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws Second Amendment Bill, it is being extended till 2020. We are working on the plan, so for now the existing architecture will continue," he said.
The National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Amendment Bill, 2014, which was passed by Parliament in December, 2014 had extended the deadline for these till December 31, 2017.
The law also provides protection against punitive action by any local authority.
