CBI Director-designate Alok Kumar Verma met Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday -- a day after he was appointed by the central government as the chief of the premier investigation agency.
Verma, a 1979 batch officer of Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre, met the Home Minister at his North Block office.
He was appointed to the post almost one-and-half months after the superannuation of previous incumbent Anil Sinha on December 2.
A three-member appointment committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi selected Verma for the coveted post. The selection committee has Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge and Chief Justice of India, or his nominee, as its other members.
Verma has been appointed for the post for a period of two years from the date of assumption of the charge of his office. His appointment as the CBI director was his 24th posting in his 36-year career as a police officer.
He is likely to take charge on Saturday.
Verma was currently serving as Delhi Police chief to which post he was appointed in February last year.
