The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will train teachers for the implementation of the Assessment of Speaking and Listening (ASL) skills in collaboration with Trinity College, London, an official said Tuesday.
ASL has been introduced in all CBSE-affiliated schools for Class 9 and Class 11 in an effort to integrate English language in the curriculum.
"Principals of schools need to identify senior teachers of English from their schools who are eligible to take the online screening test to qualify for examiner trainers in the ASL," said Sadhna Parashar, CBSE director, training research and innovation.
Teachers who qualify for the screening test will be invited to the Examiner Trainers Workshops scheduled this year in August, September and November and in January 2014.
"Examiner trainers who would be trained would be responsible for cascading the assessment training to teachers in schools in India and affiliated schools abroad," added Parashar.
As per the curriculum document for secondary schools, there is a provision of 20 marks weightage for assessing ASL Class 9 and Class 11.
CBSE is the board of education for public and private schools and conducts, among others, final examinations for Classes 10 and 12. It also annually conducts the All India Engineering Entrance and All India Pre-Medical Test examinations for admission to undergraduate courses in engineering, architecture and medical colleges, respectively.
