Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Chennaiyin FC on Wednesday signed Brazilian central defender Eder Monteiro Fernandes for the second season of the tournament which commences from October 3.

Eder, who will turn 32 in September, was last playing for Nea Salamis Famagusta in the football league of Cyprus. He spent two seasons with the Cypriot outfit.

"Chennaiyin FC is delighted to announce the signing of Brazilian central defender Eder Monteiro Fernandes for the second season of the Indian Super League," said a club release.

Speaking about their new recruit, Chennaiyin FC manager Marco Materazzi said: "We are very happy to have signed Eder. He has immense experience having played in various leagues of Europe and will add plenty of quality and solidarity to our backline. Eder will also be a good guide for the Indian players and I have full faith in him."

The Brazilian has spent much of his career in his native land with the most notable stint at giants Vasco Da Gama, where he made 79 appearances between 2005 and 2007.

Eder said he is looking forward to his time with the franchise and the playing in the ISL.

"There was a buzz about the Indian Super League globally last year so I am really looking forward to be a part of it this time. Chennaiyin already have some top players like Elano (Blumer) and (Bernard) Mendy and it will also be great to be working with the Indian players of the team."
