China is planning to set up a national supervision commission in 2018, parallel to the Communist Party of China's (CPC) anti-graft body that sanctioned the prosecution of over one million top officials for malpractice, authorities said on Monday.

The commission, which will report to the government and not the CPC, will be an extension of similar supervisory programmes running on trial in Beijing, Shanxi and Zhejiang, reports Efe news.

The announcement of the latest anti-graft tool was made on Sunday after the first meeting of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) under the new leadership of 60-year-old Zhao Leji, who replaced Wang Qishan, one of the most influential leaders of the regime over the past five years.

Zhao, as anti-corruption head of the party, said during his first public event the campaign would continue to crack down on corruption within the government and the party.

Last week, Zhao was also elected as one of the seven members of the powerful Politburo Standing Committee, headed by the country's President and CPC General Secretary Xi Jinping.
