In an attempt to enhance coastal security and for effective optimisation of its assets, the Indian Coast Guard has rebased its ship and interceptor boats to the Andaman and Nicobar region, the Coast Guard said on Friday.
Coast Guard ship Rajkamal and six interceptor boats will be rebased to the region as part of the headquarters' plan, it said in a statement here.
"This rebasing plan is aimed to enhance coastal security and effective optimisation of Coast Guard assets towards safeguarding the nation's maritime border," the statement said.
The commanding officers and men of the rebased ships were accorded a farewell at the Chennai Port Trust Harbour.
