The Congress took out a rally demanding the interrogation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the Saradha scam, even as "sports lovers" owing allegiance to the ruling Trinamool Congress protested against the arrest of Sports Minister Madan Mitra in the case.
The Congress rally carried posters and banners targeting Banerjee in connection with the scandal, which has raised a big political storm in the eastern state.
"We want the chief minister's interrogation. Without that, the CBI (probing the scam) cannot get to the bottom of the case," said state Congress leader Amitava Chakraborty.
On the other hand, the Trinamool continued to agitate against Mitra's arrest.
"Sports lovers' loyal to the Trinamool took out a protest rally on the base of statute of football legend Goshtho Pal. Among those present were former soccer stars Goutam Sarkar, Samaresh Chowdhuty and Dipendu Biswas.
