The Congress Thursday demanded "strict action" against Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti for his campaign against a "sex-and-drug ring" that four Ugandan women say caused them misery.

Delhi Congress unit chief Arvinder Singh Lovely made the demand when he led a party delegation to Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung.

Lovely told the media that Jung had assured them that a fair probe would be conducted into the issue.

"The people of Delhi are wondering whether the law is the same for the common man as well as a minister," he said.

"We demand appropriate police action against the law minister, even if it means his arrest," said Lovely.

"He should be treated like a common man, and no special treatment should be meted out to him."

Bharti came under severe criticism for trying to bust an alleged sex-and-drug racket in south Delhi.

Four Ugandan women who were allegedly victimised in the raid have complained to the authorities.

Lovely added that the Congress support to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government would, however, continue.

He said the Congress expected the AAP government of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to fulfil the 18 promises it made to the people of Delhi.

"The day they blunder on those promises, we'll think about continuing the support," he said.
