Five-time champions Corinthians rose to third place in Brazil's Serie A standings after defeating 10-man Flamengo 2-0.

Guilherme opened the scoring after Paolo Guerrero's assist and Gil doubled the home side's lead by firing in a low shot 10 minutes from time at the Pacaembu stadium Sunday, reports Xinhua.

Flamengo were forced to play the second half with 10 men after Leo Moura was shown a red card for an altercation with Corinthians midfielder Petros.

The result leaves Corinthians equal on points with second-placed Sao Paulo and two points behind leaders Fluminense.
