Five-time champions Corinthians rose to third place in Brazil's Serie A standings after defeating 10-man Flamengo 2-0.
Guilherme opened the scoring after Paolo Guerrero's assist and Gil doubled the home side's lead by firing in a low shot 10 minutes from time at the Pacaembu stadium Sunday, reports Xinhua.
Flamengo were forced to play the second half with 10 men after Leo Moura was shown a red card for an altercation with Corinthians midfielder Petros.
The result leaves Corinthians equal on points with second-placed Sao Paulo and two points behind leaders Fluminense.
In other matches Sunday, Botafogo drew 2-2 with Internacional, Cruzeiro drew 1-1 with Sao Paulo, Figueirense lost 0-2 to Bahia, Goias defeated Criciuma 1-0, Gremio overcame Atletico Mineiro 2-1, Sport beat Chapecoense 2-1 and Vitoria drew 2-2 with Atletico Paranaense.
