The Delhi High Court Thursday refused to stay the television release of Saif Ali Khan-starrer "Race 2" on a PIL alleging that the movie showed nude scenes and had dialogues with double-meaning.
A division bench of Chief Justice D Murugesan and Justice Jayant Nath dismissed a plea by social worker Teena Sharma that sought an order to stay the telecast of the movie on May 12 at 1 p.m. on Zee TV.
Sharma had sought an immediate ban on further screening of the film in movie halls and its telecast on television channels as well besides deletion of nude scenes before grant of permission to screen it again.
The court while refusing to stay the telecast of the film on TV channel said that the movie has already been released in theatres a few months earlier and at this stage, the question of a stay does not arise.
The counsel appearing for the petitioner said that the Censor Board and film makers had assured the court that they will not further telecast the movie on TV channels but they have disregarded their own assurance and allowed Zee TV to telecast the film on Sunday.
Sharma had said she was deeply hurt by the nude scenes and dialogues with double meaning after viewing the film in a theatre and it should not be released on TV.
The petition accused the movie of degrading women and displaying them as commodities.
