The Allahabad High Court has sought a detailed report from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the Rs.25 crore donation former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh gave to the Bill Clinton Foundation.
The court has given four weeks to the ED to submit the report.
While hearing a petition filed by advocate Ashok Singh, the court also sought a response from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director.
The petitioner on September 1 filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the high court seeking action against Amar Singh in a 2011 case when Babupurwa police station in Kanpur began probing money laundering charges against the leader.
Singh was accused of merging many small companies and of being involved in financial irregularities and money laundering.
The case was later closed by the Samajwadi Party (SP) government.
Earlier, days after filing the petition, Ashok Singh sought to withdraw the case. A bench of Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice Yashwant Verma however, rejected the application, took suo motto cognizance of the matter and directed the ED and CBI to file detailed reports on the issue.
The next date of hearing is October 4.
