The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Thursday pitched for an alternate front, calling for the defeat of both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in its election manifesto.
The manifesto released by party general secretary Prakash Karat called for "rejecting the Congress, defeating the BJP" and voting for a secular and democratic alternative.
"There is no difference in the Congress and the BJP. The country needs an alternative which has an alternate policy to offer," Karat said.
The manifesto also called for "building government's resources by taxing the rich, corporate profits, crackdown on tax evaders and black money".
The CPI-M has been making efforts to build a separate front against the Congress and the BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
