Cruzeiro are considering a move for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred as they seek reinforcements in their bid for a third straight Brazilian Serie A title.
The Belo Horizonte club's representatives have been in contact with the Ukrainian giants, who are also seeking changes to their personnel this summer. Shakhtar are willing to part with the 22-year-old for less than 12 million euros, reports Xinhua.
Cruzeiro have made midfield signings a priority following the January departure of Lucas Silva to Real Madrid. Coach Marcelo Oliveira has expressed his desire to make at least one important addition before the Serie A season begins on May 9.
Fred joined Shakhtar from Brazil's Internacional for 15 million euros in June 2013. He was rewarded for his consistent form by being called up by Brazil coach Dunga for friendlies against Austria and Turkey last year.
