Washington, Dec 17 (IANS/EFE) Cuba has released US contractor Alan Gross, who had been imprisoned for five years for his alleged tie with the US intelligence agencies, the White House statement said Wednesday.
President Raul Castro would appear on television and radio Wednesday to discuss "important matters in relations with the US" following Gross's release, Cuban state media reported.
He was prosecuted in 2011 for bringing satellite phones and computer equipment to the country without the permit required under Cuban law.
Gross was accused of working for American intelligence services.
He is already on a flight to the US, officials said.
