The Delhi High Court Wednesday sought a status report from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on a plea seeking direction on the problem of inadequate water supply in Dwarka area.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice R.S. Endlaw asked the DJB to reply on the issue with a status report by Sep 3.

The plea filed in the court sought directions for the Delhi government to hand over physical possession of land in certain villages to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for completion of raw water pipeline from Bawana to Dwarka so that the water treatment plant in Dwarka can be commissioned by the DJB.

The petition filed by advocate S.S. Tripathi also sought direction for the DJB and the Haryana government to complete the 103-km Carrier Lined Channel (CLC) from Munak to Haiderpur - known as Munak Canal - through which water is to be supplied by the Haryana government to Delhi.

It submitted that on account of non-commissioning of the Dwarka water treatment plant, residents of Dwarka have been forced to consume raw, saline, hard and untreated water, which was a slow poison and may lead to serious consequences in the long run.

Tripathi also sought direction for the DJB to supply an additional 2.20 million gallons daily from the Nangloi water treatment plant to the DDA in the Command Tank 2 at Madhu Vihar for Dwarka area.
