Delhi saw another pleasant day Tuesday with the mercury dipping to 32.1 degrees Celsius, seven notches below average. The met department has forecast light showers Wednesday.

The minimum temperature settled at 23.5 degrees Celsius, five notches below average. Humidity wavered between a high and low of 97 and 72.

Though there was no rain Tuesday, clogged drains and flooded roads led to traffic snarls at a number of places in the national capital.

Resident Welfare Associations blamed the civic agencies for the chaos.

Meanwhile, the scare of floods looms large over the capital as the Yamuna river flowed over the danger mark of 204.83 metres at 204.98 metres.

According to Delhi government officials, the Yamuna's level is likely to rise further Wednesday when eight lakh cusecs of water, released from Haryana's Hathnikund Barrage Monday, will reach Delhi.

"The water level in the Yamuna is 204.98 metres. The danger mark is 204.83 metres. We are keeping a close watch on the level of the river," an official from the irrigation and flood department told IANS.

Delhi Transco Limited claimed to have a power surplus of 200 MW Tuesday and effected no power cuts -- Sunday witnessed power cuts in many places.

"Peak demand today (Tuesday) reached 3,911 MW, which is much less compared to earlier days in the season. We have 200 MW of power surplus," said an official of Delhi Transco Limited.

The met department said Wednesday's sky would be cloudy and light showers are expected.

Wednesday's maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 35 and 23 degrees Celsius, respectively.
