Youth leader Dheeraj Sharma has been appointed the new national President of NCP's youth wing Nationalist Youth Congress, party President Sharad Pawar announced here on Saturday.
The appointment of Sharma, 31, was cleared by top Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders including Pawar, Secretary Tariq Anwar, MP Supriya Sule and others.
Born in Haryana and later educated in Pune, the New Delhi-based Sharma is credited with strengthening the NCP among youth in 22 states, organizing major movements on public issues and holding more than 80 national conventions for students across the country.
"I am dedicated towards the upliftment of the country and will work for the development of every section of the society. As per a UN report, India has the world largest youth population with more than 356 million youngsters and has immense power," he said on taking over his new responsibilities.
On his priorities, Sharma said that women's safety and unemployment are the biggest issues which the youth must take seriously and work to resolve them.
He added that vision of India lies in the hands of the youth who can join to develop the country into one of the strongest nations in the world.
Sharma runs an NGO in Pune called Organisation of Social Services Trust working in the field of youth and education, with over 25,000 student volunteers.
He succeeds Rajiv Jha, who served as NYC president since 2013.
