The Ghaziabad district police launched 'Dial 100' centralised service for making emergency call to police on Monday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Kumar, along with Member of Legislative Council (MLC) Rakesh Yadav, launched the service here.

Deepak Kumar told IANS: "Dial 100 service is Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's ambitious project, inspired by the '911' service of the United States."

The centralised control room of the Dial 100 service in Uttar Pradesh has been set up at Lucknow, where 300 professionals are on wire round-the-clock to attend to the distress calls.

A total of 3,200 police jeeps and 1,600 motorcycles across the state have been attached to the control room.

The control room is equipped with the latest internet- and telephony-based connectivity to respond immediately to the calls reaching from all the 70 districts of the state.

"The maximum time limit to reach the site of crime would be 20 minutes," the SSP added.

The Ghaziabad centre of the Dial 100 service has been sanctioned 64 vehicles to respond to the distress calls. These vehicles include 39 Innova SUVs and 25 Bolero jeeps.

One Inspector, three Sub-Inspectors, 120 Head Constables, 126 Constables and 123 drivers have been assigned to serve the local populace here.
