Tension gripped Assam's Dibrugarh town on Wednesday following an assault and robbery of a girl student of the Dibrugarh University.
A large crowd of students from the university and general public took to the streets here protesting the Tuesday incident and demanding exemplary action against the accused.
The Assam Police has already arrested two of the six men allegedly involved in the crime. A search is on for the other four, as they are on the run.
The police has also recovered the Tata Sumo vehicle, which was used to abduct the victim.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning when a group of six men whisked away the student and physically assaulted her before dumping her in another part of the town.
According to the complaint lodged by the victim with the police, the incident took place around 4 a.m. after she got off a bus at Borpathar area. She was forcibly shuffled into the SUV and taken towards Chowkidingi area.
