In a major initiative towards digitising the public distribution system (PDS) in the state, 1,500 digital ration cards will be distributed in the state capital on Wednesday, officials said.
Regional supply officer Hemant Kumar said digital card holders will have to pay a nominal fee of Rs.10 for the card.
In the first phase, he added, the digital ration cards would be given in Daliganj, Sabauli, Sitapur Road and Khadra.
Under the digital ration card regime, the above poverty line (APL) card holders will get a yellow coloured ration card, those below poverty line (BPL) white cards, and beneficiaries of the Antyodaya scheme will get pink coloured cards.
In the first phase, however, only the APL cards will be distributed, while in the coming days, other cards will be given out to the beneficiaries in a phased manner, the officials said.
