The lynching of a rape accused in Nagaland's Dimapur town was raised in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday with MPs questioning the state government's inability to prevent the crime.

Raising the issue during zero hour, Janata Dal-United MP Sharad Yadav questioned why police could not stop a mob of 10,000 people entering into the jail.

"What is the difference in Taliban, IS and this?" Yadav asked.

"Do we want to take this country to anarchy? Where was the state government when 10,000 people broke into the jail," he questioned.

Congress's Naznil Faruque attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, accusing them of dubbing all Muslims in northeast as Bangladeshis.

Syed Farid Khan, a 35-year-old second-hand car dealer, was accused of raping a 20-year-old Naga woman on February 23 and 24 at different locations. Police arrested Khan on February 25 and a lower court sent him to judicial custody.

On March 5, an irate crowd dragged him out of jail and lynched him.
