A Delhi court on Thursday granted bail to Jubilant Energy official Subhash Chandra, an accused in the petroleum ministry documents leak case.

Additional Sessions Judge Raj Kapoor granted bail to Chandra and asked him to furnish a personal bond of Rs.2 lakh and a surety of like amount.

He is the first accused in the case to get bail.

The four other corporate executives' bail issue is pending before the sessions court which is scheduled to hear their plea on May 5.

The court imposed several conditions on Chandra including that he should not tamper with evidence and influence witnesses.

Delhi police have opposed Chandra's bail plea and said it has recovered six sets of documents from his possession.

He was not authorised to possess these documents, police said.

The prosecution has added that the documents were not in the public domain.

However, Chandra's counsel Sandeep Kapur said no secret documents have been recovered from the possession of his client, who has been in custody for over two months.

Police have charged 13 people under various sections dealing with cheating, forgery, trespass, theft, common intent and criminal conspiracy in a charge sheet filed on April 18.

Police registered a first information report on February 17 over the leak of classified documents related to various ministries, including petroleum and natural gas.
